Making the World Better for Everyone
Flowserve supplied gas seals and associated panels to Enertime, a turbine manufacturer. Our products will be used in an energy recovery turbine – these turbines use excess pressure in the gas pipeline to drive a generator and create electricity. This innovative solution is a direct contribution to driving energy efficiency and conservation – helping make the world better for everyone.
Our pumps are being used in Calysseo's new FeedKind® production facility – the first of its kind in China. FeedKind is a protein family made up of sustainable and traceable feed ingredients for fish, livestock and pets. The production process uses no agricultural land and relatively little water, helping meet the world's ever-increasing need for more food without placing more stress on scarce resources.
Flowserve is more than just the products we make and the services we provide – we are committed to serving our communities. Through our community impact programs, Flowserve Cares, we teamed up with Social Impakt to deliver ceramic water filters to rural communities in Bali helping improve their access to clean drinking water.
Flowserve's vacuum pumps are being used in Kanghui's production of PBS (Polybutylene Succinate), a biodegradable plastic. Biodegradable plastics not only help reduce our level of waste, but they also potentially reduce the level of greenhouse gas emissions, consume less energy and reduce carbon emissions – providing an alternative product for global sustainability efforts.
A variety of Flowserve pumps are being used in the Everglades Restoration Plan, one of the largest environmental restoration projects in the world. Our pumps are helping store algae laden water from Lake Okeechobee in a 16-billion-gallon reservoir for future cleanups and preventing any harmful runoff. By helping restore our environment, we can help make the world better for generations to come.
Flowserve provided pumps, valves and seals from North America and Europe to support Pfizer's mass production of its COVID-19 vaccine, helping slow the spread of COVID-19.
Through Flowserve Cares and our partnership with United Way, we’ve been able to provide vital COVID-19 relief materials across India during their fight against COVID-19. We provided “family kits” that contained food, medicine and safety equipment, vital medical supplies, as well as oxygen concentrators and a 'vaccine van' that is used to transport COVID-19 vaccines and syringes to those who can't reach vaccination centers.
Following a historic snowstorm in Texas in early 2021, crippling much of the state's infrastructure, Flowserve responded to our customers' needs by deploying our people and leveraging our QRCs across North America to minimize plant down-time and expedite a safe return to operations – helping bring power back to Texas.
Flowserve is dedicated to providing a safe workplace for our employees, demonstrated by our more than 2,400 National Safety Council Awards over the last 30 years and operating with historicaly low workplace accident rates.
We are also dedicated to creating safe communities. Our focus on environmental protection has led to reductions in solvent emissions, solid waste and hazardous waste generation at Flowserve facilities around the world. In addition, our employees remain committed to supporting the communities where they live and work through monetary contributions and volunteer efforts.
Flowserve's community impact program, Flowserve Cares, incorporates monetary donations, in-kind contributions and volunteer opportunities to help make a meaningful impact in the communities where our employees and customers live and work. Local sites are encouraged to select organizations that they can support in order to maximize the impact and drive employee involvement. Dr. Paul Cooper
The Flowserve legacy is one of more than 200 years of industry leadership with a respected roster of established brand names known worldwide. Our history is powered by many bright engineers that continue to inspire generations of the future. One such engineer is Dr. Paul Cooper, who began working as an engineer in 1959. One could say Dr. Cooper’s career began long before that when his grandfather gave him a copy of the Mechanical Engineers Handbook as a child.
Dr. Cooper began designing aircraft fuel pumps and after several years of field experience and the completion of his PhD in 1972, Dr. Cooper was quickly regarded as an expert in hydraulic design and fluid mechanics. Over the years, he has published over sixty articles and papers, has been issued over a dozen patents, and most notably, acted as contributor to the third and fourth editions of the Pump Handbook, more affectionately referred to as “the pump bible”.
Since retiring in 1999, Dr. Cooper has acted as an engineering consultant to Flowserve, offering engaging courses to our engineers in learning centers and facilities around the world. His wealth of knowledge, diverse experience and real-world application are investing the next generation at Flowserve. Of course, the profession has evolved and grown over the years – drawing boards have become 3D models and analyses are ran at the push of a button, but the necessity to innovate remains the same. Dr. Cooper says his objective is to teach others such that they may come to know more than him – that the transfer of knowledge and motivation would be the hallmark of his career.

Margie Lewis
With 20 years at Flowserve, Margie Lewis brings deep expertise to our Lynchburg, VA, valves operation. In her role as a Precision Assembler, she collaborates with her peers, supervisors and engineers to build actuators and assemble parts orders.
“With each unit that I build, I challenge myself to deliver beyond customer expectations with quality products. In my role I also troubleshoot units to find solutions for the best way to assemble the product,” said Margie.
On a typical day, Margie’s toolbox consists of hammers, drills, a press, and air guns. No matter the task, she lives Flowserve’s Ownership value by being accountable and doing what is best for our customers.

I was the Project Engineer on the team and partnered closely with Design Engineers and Production. The project was completed on time and resulted in one of the proudest moments in my career.”

Adjan Matthijssenn
In the 10 years Adjan has been a part of the Flowserve team, he has found excitement and motivation in learning to work across several industries from oil and gas to renewables and water. Through Flowserve’s extensive training opportunities, Adjan has been able to sharpen his skills and grow in his role.
“My role is focused on general assembly activities like balancing, hydrotesting and torqueing equipment. We have an effective team at our site and our work changes from day to day. In fact, many colleagues have helped shape my career. One of my proudest accomplishments was working as a team to turn around a customer request in a matter of days."

Eudocio Morales
When Eudocio Morales first joined Flowserve, he was just 18 years old. Now, 40 years later, he has three grown children of his own and continues to learn something new about machinery each day.
Based in Santa Clara, Mexico, Eudocio has become an expert in his machinery during his tenure at Flowserve – from machine lathes and conventional machines to milling machines and numerical control machines.
Guaranteeing quality while practicing safety is Eudocio’s priority. As a machinist, knowing how to identify drawings, understanding programming language and quality assembly is important for being successful in the role. He has been involved in several projects that improved processes for our customers.
“During my 40 years at Flowserve, I have enjoyed the variety of projects I have been able to work on. I learn every day from my colleagues, and they keep me motivated," said Eudocio.

Kirsten Murphy
“I was drawn to a career in engineering because it’s a practical way to analyze, explain and predict the physical works, and then use the knowledge to enhance it,” said Kirsten Murphy, Flowserve Product Engineer (PE). “For the same reasons, I originally set out to study the brain, but I realized I had more passion for math than anatomy!”
Kirsten began her Flowserve journey in 2017 as an R&D intern at our facility in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA. She excelled in a variety of engineering roles and sparked innovation for our compressor seal product lines. As a PE, Kirsten is responsible for developing products, proofing concepts and pursuing new opportunities – such as leading an initiative to improve the manufacturing method for dry-gas seal face lift-off technology. She explains that despite the highly technical calculations and design involved in this work, communication is key.
“The majority of the solutions we develop are the result of collaboration: We arrive at the best solutions by combining expertise and perspectives from all areas of the product-development process.” Kirsten feels this is a key reason she chose to stay with the company after her internship. “Flowserve has an amazing collaborative culture that has helped me succeed and feel valued, even as a new engineer.”

Elvis Nditafon
For Elvis Nditafon, “it is a joy to work for an organization that values and encourages innovation.” Such an environment is well-suited for engineers like Elvis who dare to reimagine the impossible. Elvis first became interested in automation of engineering analyses over a decade ago, a concept that was at one time deemed impossible. Ten years later, he says that “seemingly impossible engineering automation may indeed be complex but is simply a case where it has yet to be done. Creativity and innovation may be required in the process of automation, but it should not be thought impossible simply because it has never been done.”
Elvis was recently able to set his passions for automation of engineering analyses into motion when our team in Mezzago, Italy determined there was a need to reduce finite element analysis lead times for leakage simulations. After several discussions, Elvis and the team decided it would be most beneficial to develop an automated analysis application that addresses common ball valve analysis needs. The application was designed for ease of expansion and the ability to accommodate standardiz and non-standard engineering designs. The result of this innovation is consistent, high-quality analyses, reduction in cost, error and lead time. There is also the added benefit of providing engineers the freedom to focus on more critical tasks that bring value to Flowserve. All of these benefits are passed directly to our customer. The success of the application is only getting started as Elvis hopes to expand the application to include other processes and with automated reports.
Elvis has emphasized that such a successful innovation would not have come to fruition without the collaboration between the teams involved. “The importance of collaboration across engineering functions cannot be overlooked. Collaboration is essential to ensuring full utilization of the differing skills, knowledge, and experience of team members, and usually results in faster completion of projects with more innovative solutions to problems.”

Paul Phillips
Paul Phillips joined Flowserve just this year, but his role as a Project Manager has enabled him to build a strong, global network quickly. From Santa Clara, Mexico, to Suzhou, China, Paul coordinates information from sites across the globe to manage timelines, mitigate risk and ultimately deliver products that exceed our customers’ expectations.
“I get to see the product process end-to-end. From the engineering and procurement phase, to risk management and supply chain, staying connected is the catalyst for getting from start to finish successfully,” he said. “Communication in a project setting has been more important than ever as we work in new ways to stay safe while keeping the same level of collaboration.”
As a project manager, Paul is uniquely positioned to work directly with customers and leverage their feedback to find innovative solutions: “Just when you think you have it figured out, you get something new, then work with the team on problem solving. It’s an exciting part of being in a project manager role.”

Sarah Purawic
From a young age, Sarah Purawic had a knack for creativity and critical thinking to solve problems. “Math and science were always my favorite subjects. I would ask for 101 Science Experiment books and spend all day in the kitchen trying to carry them out.” With her father being a mechanical engineer, Sarah knew she wanted to enter the family business.
When she began exploring opportunities to jumpstart her career after graduating from Penn State in 2019, Sarah was intrigued by Flowserve’s early career development program, IGNITE. IGNITE offers a robust curriculum, three-year rotational program in different regions across different business functions and diverse project assignments. Sarah says she was not only attracted to the opportunity to fast track her career, but also to Flowserve’s values as an organization.
Sarah has worked on several projects ranging from material, quality and process code standardization to her most recent, an initiative focusing on cross-alignment and change management across Flowserve for several new enterprise tools. “As part of a change campaign, I’ve assembled a team to create videos explaining the needs and benefits of the new systems in a fun, creative way. The film is called Enterprise Endeavor, a superhero movie where Enterprise Mindset, the hero, needs to introduce new tools and standards to save Flowserve from Misalignment.” Sarah’s creative work on this specific project is not only directly impacting Flowserve’s strategy, but also allowing Sarah to utilize her skillset and exercise her passions in a professional setting.
Now in her third year of IGNITE, Sarah feels that her diverse experiences and projects have provided her “the best understanding of Flowserve in three years and the opportunity to develop [herself] as a team member and leader.” We are proud to offer development opportunities to young leaders at Flowserve, just like Sarah.

Hernandez Santillan
Julián Ramsés Hernández Santillán was first introduced to Flowserve eight years ago while accompanying a friend through the area where our Santa Clara, Mexico, Quick Response Center (QRC) is located. Within a few weeks, Ramsés was a part of our team.
He had become an expert in complex technical work and was looking for a role that would challenge his skills. Ramsés knew during his interview and the technical test that the knowledge of machines and skills required would help him take his expertise to a new level.
“As a machinist, the most important things to know are Flowserve’s safety rules and how to interpret plans and measurement,” he said. “You must be able to analyze and understand the tolerances you have for each piece because that is the difference between finishing a good piece or having scrap. Other knowledge of the workshop machines such as lathes, milling machines, presses, parallel and vertical lathes, etc., is important in this role too.”
While at Flowserve, Ramsés has grown both personally and professionally. From being able to pay for a house, purchase a car and earn his mechanical engineering certificate, being a part of the Flowserve team has improved his quality of life.

“My role has given me the opportunity to work with teams all over the world. I have been able to experience many other cultures visiting parts of the business that use my pump line. I’m always learning new ways of working and solving problems for our customers,” Jacopo said.
Innovation is a key part of Jacopo’s role as a product engineer. He spends much of his time developing solutions to tackle challenges or applying what he’s learned in new ways. Each day brings opportunities that energize him and take him out of his comfort zone. Jacopo was a recipient of Flowserve’s 2019 Engineering Achievement Awards.
“The variability of research and development is what excites me most about my work. Each day there is a new focus, and I am empowered with a mindset to do things differently. I feel like I am always learning and growing,” he concluded.

Jess Tuntland
Before joining Flowserve, military veteran Jess Tuntland started her professional journey in Michigan State University’s Air Force ROTC. The experience prepared her for a successful military career that transformed her into a project management professional.
“In a way, I backed into project management. When I was commissioned as a second lieutenant, the Air Force assigned me to my first project manager role,” said Jess. “I’ve led acquisition projects that have benefited the Department of Homeland Security, Air Force Special Operations Command and the Joint CBRN community. I even had the opportunity to teach project management at the University of Louisville.”
Jess separated from the Air Force as a major in 2018 and joined Flowserve. She transitioned smoothly into the world of project management for the Pumps Division because the diversity of industries was like the wide-range of learning opportunities available through the military.
“I love project management because no matter the organization, this role interacts with everyone. It takes many different disciplines to keep a project moving forward. You get to go beyond your own world in many ways to create, improve and evolve our products for our customers,” she concluded.

Ryan Usry
The teams in Flowserve’s international network of Quick Response Centers (QRCs) focus on creating value for our customers. As a member of the QRC team, engineer Ryan Usry’s top priority is delivering solutions that maximize the benefit of our customers’ products. Ryan is the first point of contact for operators needing modifications or technical assistance, and he develops procedures that the QRC network can use to apply solutions quickly.
Working primarily with pumps, Ryan develops solutions through design software and special calculations developed by Flowserve. Through training and experience, his responsibilities recently expanded to include aftermarket designs, allowing him to collaborate with engineering firms and other Flowserve teams to ensure that all the design mechanics work to exceed customer expectations.

Jeroen van Loon
Jeroen started his Flowserve career as a Machinist, working closely with the development of our products.

Jacopo Talignani
Jacopo Talignani’s engineering career started at a young age with a passion for cars and engines. Today, he has responsibility for three of Flowserve’s major pump lines globally and works closely with Flowserve’s sales team – offering solutions to our customers’ toughest challenges and delivering beyond their expectations.
#Flowserve

#VeteransDay #Flowserve

Ryan Usry
The teams in Flowserve’s international network of Quick Response Centers (QRCs) focus on creating value for our customers. As a member of the QRC team, engineer Ryan Usry’s top priority is delivering solutions that maximize the benefit of our customers’ products. Jeroen van Loon
Jeroen started his Flowserve career as a Machinist, working closely with the development of our products. He participated in several Flowserve training opportunities to grow in his career and was promoted to Industrial Engineer. Serving in this role gave him an even broader view of how our products are created end-to-end and prepared him for success in his current role as Project Coordinator.
As a Project Coordinator, Jeroen connects the needs of our customers with the innovation of our teams to deliver fast results.
“In my role I monitor the financial status and the lead time of my projects. I’m also responsible for the contact with the customers and suppliers. I keep them updated on the process and make sure our orders are delivered on time with the highest standards of quality. Our lead times are short, but we have a team of experts, so we accomplish a lot in a short amount of time.”
Jeroen attributes the team's success to the relationships they have built and their willingness to help each other.

Tom Wheeler
Tom Wheeler joined Flowserve the day after ending a successful Navy career. While serving, Tom specialized in repair and replication of pumps, valves and marine systems, which made the transition into his role at Flowserve a natural fit. For almost 30 years, Tom has received several certifications and become an expert in machinery across a range of industries.
"My favorite part of my role is the variety. Some machinists work in production shops where they make thousands of the same parts. At Flowserve, the variety of what we do affords me flexibility to work across multiple products and machines.”
Each day, he makes it a priority to impact his deep knowledge of machinery on the next generation of Flowserve innovators.
