PURPOSE IN ACTION - MAKING THE WORLD BETTER FOR EVERYONE

  • Flare Gas Recovery Systems in Gulf Coast Facilities to Reduce Air Toxins

To reduce volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air caused by flare gas, Flowserve will be the sole supplier of flare gas recovery systems for five Gulf Coast facilities for a major petrochemical company. Once the systems are in operation, VOCs will be reduced by 5,600 tons annually, and air toxins (such as benzene) will be reduced by about 500 tons.

By focusing on efforts like flare reduction, greenhouse gas emissions and air quality, Flowserve is enabling customers in reducing their carbon footprint – making the world better for everyone.

  • City of Dallas: United States Flood Protection Project

Flowserve Concrete Volute Pumps were selected to upgrade the current Dallas flood protection system. Flowserve products will protect the city of Dallas from flooding, prevent loss of life, and alleviate infrastructure and environmental damage.

  • Preserving Chile’s Fresh Water Resources

Collahuasi, operators of one of the largest copper mines in the world, currently uses a freshwater supply from aquifers for their mining operations in Chile. To enable their planned increase in capacity and extend the mine life by 20 years, they are developing a seawater desalination plant and water pumping and transport system to supply the water for their mining needs. Flowserve will supply 25 DMX pumps for the Water Impulse System from the Port Sector to the Cordillera Sector. Our pumps will be pivotal in helping preserve and care for the region’s natural resources.

  • Afsluitdijk: Holland Flood Protection Project

The pumps involved are the largest that Flowserve has ever built – these have an impeller diameter of 4.6 meters, which is nearly 15 feet! They will protect the Netherlands from future flooding as part of the Afsluitdijk development. One of the main dykes in Holland is shown here.

  • Rubén Álvarez Díaz

    Customer Service Supervisor
    Pozuelo de Alarcón, Spain

Rubén Álvarez Díaz began working at Flowserve more than nine years ago as a Sales Support Representative. Although he had never before considered leading a team, Rubén made the decision to apply for a promotion to Customer Service Supervisor. “Not only was this a tough process with other eligible candidates, but it was also an inner fight against my fears, jumping out of my comfort zone and giving way to a new journey in my career,” he recalled. Rubén got the promotion and has been enjoying his role ever since.

"Even after nine years at Flowserve, I still learn new things every day. Project Management means I’m involved in all steps of the process, and I never stop learning. My work is never routine," he explained.

Working with people is Rubén’s favorite part of his role. He feels that his team is a great example of diversity in terms of age, gender, race and ways of thinking, and he appreciates the passion and variety of perspectives they bring to their projects. "I enjoy helping people and encourage them to give 100% each day. This inspires me to give 100% of myself, too," he said.

When he’s not working, Rubén enjoys traveling, swimming, running, being out in nature and spending time with his family.

  • Hanna Gerbstedt

    Director Engineering and Product Design
    Itzehoe, Germany

Meet Hanna Gerbstedt. She has been on the Flowserve team almost 10 years now. As Director of Engineering & Product Design, her days are never the same. “Sometimes I’m traveling and very focused on the team I’m with. Other days I’m in my office in Germany with quiet time in the mornings and busy afternoons and evenings once the Western Hemisphere is awake.”

Hanna’s favorite part of the work that she does is the ability to experience a global perspective at Flowserve. She also appreciates the opportunity to connect with excellent engineering minds, sharing best practices and solving challenges together. “I’m very proud of the team that I’m with. We have so many exceptional engineers in our community globally… it’s thrilling to enable these teams and people.” In her free time, Hanna enjoys Thai boxing, motorcycling and music, but her biggest joy are her children: “I love seeing them grow and develop.”

  • Alan Garcia Pontones

    Quality Assurance Manager
    Santa Clara, Mexico

Meet Alan Garcia, our latest #EmployeeSpotlight. He joined as a result of our college recruitment program in Mexico, starting in 2013 as a Manufacturing Engineer. Since then, he has worked diligently in a variety of positions to reach his current role, Quality Assurance Manager, in which he oversees the region’s 10 facilities.

Alan says the favorite part of his work is having the opportunity to “inspire the associates I work with and help them achieve things that may have seemed impossible before.” During an average week, he visits two sites every day so he is physically in all the region’s sites to support their projects and translate the division strategy into tailored, tactical plans.

Alan is inspired by the chance to be part of building Flowserve’s future and creating those “extraordinary solutions to make the world better for everyone.” He takes ownership of the quality of work his region provides and says he always encourages his team members to feel proud of what they do. Outside of work, Alan enjoys camping, photography, and road tripping to Mexico’s many “Magical Towns.”

  • Philip Aggrey

    Technical Solutions Manager
    Ghana, Africa

Meet Philip Aggrey. He began his time with Flowserve over 10 years ago, in February 2014. His first role was a Technical Service Engineer and now, after a few career shifts and new responsibilities, he is the Technical Solution Manager for all Africa operations. When asked what drives Philip to go to work every day, he said his inspiration comes from the fact that every part of his job, however big or small, is helping to enrich the lives of his neighbors and his family.

"Working for Flowserve has been a great honor. The company is truly a multinational company with people of different races and cultures." Flowserve's teams offer inclusivity for all, and Philip appreciates how there is always room for people to share their ideas and opinions, which has contributed to Flowserve's past successes. "This inclusivity will continue to fuel success for many associates for years to come."

Outside of work, Philip enjoys spending time with his family and likes watching movies and football – especially La Liga. He’s a big fan of FC Barcelona!

  • Jayce VandeGiessen

    Machinist
    Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA

Jayce started his Flowserve career at just 16-years-old when he joined his high school's co-op program. He joined Flowserve full-time once he graduated and continues to build his expertise in machining. Mastering new challenges each day has inspired Jayce to grow in his career with Flowserve. He recently transitioned from machining to a role in maintenance.

"What keeps me going each day is the challenge of something new. I get to create new parts, simplify how we make parts, and figure out how to improve the tools we use. As a machinist, I worked on setting up tooling for all the jobs that are run with my machines. Now that I am in maintenance, my job is to make sure our machines are capable of what they need to do."

Jayce serves as a backup lead on-site to a large team. He credits the mentors at his facility with helping him build his work ethic and always has fun with the group he works with.
