Role Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design of Engineered-To-Order hardware and instrumentation packages, with primary focus on mechanical seal reliability and environmental control systems per API 682 and API 614. Functions include piping and pressure vessel design per ASME BPVC Sect. VIII Div. 1 and ASME B31.3, customer specification review and interpretation, component selection and supervision of CAD packages and supporting documentation. In this role you will interface with cross-functional teams including Sales, Commercial Operations, Project Management, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Product Engineering, Product Management, and Aftermarket Engineering.

Responsibilities & Requirements: Responsibilities:

  • Design mechanical seal auxiliary systems to meet customer specifications, industry standards and international codes

  • Consult with fellow Flowserve engineering and non-engineering associates to solve complex design and/or manufacturing problems

  • Negotiate changes to scope/job requirements with consideration to safety, design quality, cost, profitability and delivery

  • Source, evaluate, and specify manufactured and purchased components for system fabrication

  • Instruct/guide Design team in the production of drawings, BOM’s, and supporting documentation for the manufacture, testing, installation, operation and support of mechanical seal auxiliary systems

  • Contribute expertise to global standardization efforts

  • Participate in site and team Continuous Improvement efforts

  • Effectively manage an ongoing queue of multiple projects/orders with consideration to quality and on-time delivery

  • Provide responsive and customer-centric support to both internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field, with 0-4 years of industrial experience

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and computer skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong planning, time management and organizational skills; able to succeed in a collaborative environment while establishing and executing on priorities that include multiple projects, support requests and Continuous Improvement initiatives

  • Ability to focus on long term goals and to identify and produce deliverables aligned with business objectives

Preferred Experience / Skills: Preferred Experience / Skills:

  • Familiarity with BOM’s and manufacturing processes

  • Familiarity with valves and instrumentation (gauges, transmitters, switches, etc.)

  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs including component identification and function (valves, instrumentation, etc.)

  • Experience designing piping and/or pressure vessels to international standards (e.g. ASME B31.3, ASME BPVC Sect. VII-1, etc.)

  • Familiarity with tubed systems and tubing components

  • Familiarity with 3D CAD design software (Inventor, Solidworks, etc.)

  • Experience designing liquid flow systems (valves/controls, pumps/motors, instrumentation, filtration, etc.).

  • Background in design and function of auxiliary systems for mechanical seals (i.e. experience with API 682) is highly desirable

  • Background in design and function of Plan 54 circulators, lube oil systems (i.e. experience with API 614) or similar is highly desirable
