Basic Function:

The Global Engineering Supervisor of GTEC-Torreon Order Engineering is responsible for overseeing the flex engineering support that is provided to site and regional engineering teams as requested, ensuring quality engineering products are delivered on-time. This position will ensure that Order Engineers are available to meet the forecasted demand from the sites, regions and platforms with the required engineering skills and training and access to the appropriate engineering design tools. The Supervisor of GTEC-Mexico Order Engineering will work closely with platform, regional and site engineering leadership to understand the needs of the business and to prioritize engineering assignments in alignment with customer expectations.

The position will report to the Manager of Engineering, GTEC Torreon. The position will be located at the Shared Service Center Torreon.

Nature and Scope:

  • Recruit, develop and maintain a team of Order Engineers to offer flex capacity to the site, regional and platform Order and Project Engineering teams.

  • Manage the GTEC-Torreon Order Engineering team.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Drive a culture within the order engineering team based on customer focus, ethics, and a strong commitment to providing order-related product designs for safe and reliable operation in the specified operating conditions.

  • Ensure product safety and regulatory compliance through implementation of rigorous design control procedures and protocols.

  • Recruit, develop and lead a team of highly motivated engineers to partner with regional and site engineering teams to augment their capacity for order and project engineering work.

  • Oversee job management and backlog, aligning assignments with individual skillsets to provide timely completion of assigned work with effective utilization of resources.

  • Work closely with regional and site engineering leaders who are providing engineering assignments to ensure that deliverables are clearly defined, and necessary job inputs are available.

  • Collaborate with peers responsible for flex engineering teams at other GTEC locations to ensure that the collective GTEC resources are seamlessly deployed to meet the business needs while optimizing utilization of resource capacity and capabilities.

  • Maintain monthly metrics for OTD, quality, efficiency, utilization, and productivity, identifying and mitigating any variances from performance expectations at the individual or team level.

  • Establish and maintain strong communication channels with site, regional and platform engineering leaders to understand their business needs and to receive their feedback on the performance of the GTEC-Mexico Order Engineering team.

  • Develop engineering talent through recruiting, development and programs aimed at engagement and retention to ensure sustainability of key technical competencies and capability. Establish technical development plans that leverage appropriate product design and engineering tool related training.

  • Act as an effective change agent, driving adaptation of team practices as necessary to meet changing business needs.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical degree with a M.S. in Engineering or Engineering Management preferred

  • Minimum 2 years of industrial experience within the rotating equipment industry

  • Strong analytical, problem solving skills with a demonstrated ability to apply technology to creatively solve problems and meet business and stakeholder needs.

  • Solid understanding of engineering CAD, PLM and other tools that are integral to the execution of order engineering work.

  • Strong commitment to customer service.

  • Good interpersonal skills and emotional IQ with a demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships.

  • Strong English oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to compose concise reports and presentations.

  • Proven ability to adapt to changing organizational environment and business needs.

  • Commitment to staff development through mentoring and coaching.
