Role Summary

The Field Service Engineering Specialist (FSES) is a customer facing extension of the Flowserve digital products and automation engineering team, including M&T. The role of the FSES is to safely perform a range of engineering and service activities at a customer’s facility. The services provided will consist of; utilization of FLS diagnostics capability in trouble shooting, analysis, inspection, compatibility issues between FLS digital products and customers control systems (DCS, SIS, PLC). A strong and experienced background in triaging instrument performance and connectivity to host control or asset management systems. This includes the main communication protocols in the process control industry. (HART, Foundation Field bus, Profibus, Modbus, etc.) Triaging will also include the electrical and mechanical side of the products to find, separate and isolate problems and prevent them from escalating inside the customer organization. A key part of the FSES role is to train the end users and direct FLS support personal in the proper use of the products so user error is minimized and does not escalate in the customer site and cast blame on the fleet of product in the field. This helps prevent distraction for customers and/or key level 3 engineering resources unnecessarily. When legitimate issues or problems are identified, the FSES is to help capture all the relevant data and share it using the correct tools (Field problem reports, CAR, etc) with the Level 3 engineering and/or manufacturing team so the problems can be pinpointed and solved more quickly. This FSES will be an integral part of customer turn around planning and execution. As an extension of the engineering team, the FSES is customer facing and represents the highest level of field knowledge on digital products. As a key member of the FLS technical and engineering community the FSES will be called on to support and train FLS direct sales, sales channels and commercial operations teams so the objectives can be realized. They will train FLS employees and have a key partnership with the QRC technicians and support them when the field issues pass their level or ability. They will communicate and document all product and site activities electronically that can be used by FLS engineering, M&T and operations to develop and improve products and instructions. When needed reports will be created for internal and external use for FLS and our customers in order to bring closure to field problems correctly and quickly. The FSES is a critical role for ensuring Customer satisfaction and keeping them at ease in times of trouble shooting and problem resolution.

Responsibilities & Requirements:

  • Actively support a positive safety culture to reduce injuries and maintain a safe work environment

  • Ensure ethical behavior in line with Flowserve’s code of conduct

  • The FSES is a key extension of the digital product and automation engineering team and leading front-line customer facing member of the FLS digital product, automation and M&T technical community

  • Educate customers on the proper installation and operation of FLS digital products. This prevents competitors from trying to blame system related issues on FLS digital products or customer believing we have systemic problems due to lack of education.

  • Quickly and correctly triage FLS digital product issues to get the problems resolved in the field as quickly as possible. When the problem can’t be resolved in the field, work with the regional lab and/or the global engineering team to define and implements solutions when required. Work with M&T product manager to provide improvements for instructions and ease of use for the product

  • Support our sales team efforts when needed including customer and sales channel training

  • Work within the FLS digital products community and network to improve our local ability to Quickly address and resolve digital technical problems by providing direct digital technical service & support at customer sites to instrument and control system engineers. Interface with engineering when needed

  • Serve as the leading customer interface for digital products and will include the application understanding, evaluation and troubleshooting of valves and actuation. Determining the correct operation and condition of the actuator and/or valves in installed in a specific service. They will oversee the installation, commissioning, set up calibration and tuning of FLS digital products including general operation, and troubleshooting of the digital products on automated packages. (Positioner, actuator and valve, etc)

  • Provide digital technical support and assistance for control valves, digital products, and automation products.

  • Provide technical support and training face to face, by phone, webinar and/or hands on for all digital products and related software of Flowserve to internal personnel, representatives, and end-users.

  • Develop relationships with key customers to understand their needs, requirements and ways of doing business. Develop and define new ways of providing value that customers are willing to pay for implicitly

  • Work closely with the digital products field technicians and the automation and digital products engineering team to trouble shoot and problems and resolve field issues regionally. Communicate and share knowledge as part of the global digital product community

  • Work with order fulfillment managers, field service managers to ensure effective field support during installation, commissioning, start up and aftermarket service demands when the problems or complexity exceeds the level of the local technicians.

  • Travel to customer locations to troubleshoot and repair all Flowserve Control Valve Business Unit products, solicit the sale and installation of spare parts.

  • Work side-by-side with Customer and 3rd party personnel, EPC’s as required or needed

  • Collaborate with Flowserve Sales Engineers to ensure a coordinated approach to serving our end users, sales channel partners, and EPC’s

  • Complete understanding of the use of valve diagnostic systems for predictive and preventative maintenance and what scripted diagnostics are illustrating.

  • Using the on board data loggers or other diagnostic tools, troubleshoot equipment returned to the factory for failure analysis and problem resolution.

  • Maintain organized, accurate documentation

  • Proactively identify any Flowserve equipment and/or services that may need Flowserve technical attention for our customers

  • The job requires travel as necessary (up to 80%)

  • Completion of daily Job Safety Environmental Assessment (JSEA)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • MS or BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or other related engineering field.

  • 5 to 10 years as a Technical problem solver that has experience with the systems and networks (DCS, SIS, AMS) including the integration of actuation, control valves and instruments.

  • This is a regional role and the FCES must be fluent in English communication. Verbal, reading and writing.

  • Strong understanding of compressible and non-compressible fluid flow in process control environments including tuning these flow loops.

  • Ability to explain digital and mechanical concepts and articulate recommendations that detail value that customers are willing to pay for.

  • Comprehensive working knowledge of Instrumentation and process control and the elements in a flow loop (PID control, flowmeters, different process sensors, transmitters, valves, analog and digital communications, DCS, PLC, and asset management systems).

  • Comprehensive working knowledge of digital communications protocols – HART, FF and Modbus. (Profibus DP and PA knowledge is a plus) / FDT/DTM technology.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).

  • Comprehensive working knowledge about the main DCS and related Asset Management Systems (Emerson DeltaV/AMS; Yokogawa Centum VP/PRM; Honeywell Experion/FDM).

  • Comprehensive working knowledge about the main FDT Frames {M&M (Flowserve’s frame), PACTware, FieldMate and FieldCare}.

  • Proficient with demonstration equipment: audio-visual, electronic, mechanical and pneumatic equipment.

  • Knowledgeable in removing, installing and starting-up digital products including software installations

  • Must be a self-starter capable of working independently with little to no supervision

  • Capable of leading instrument engineers, site engineers and technicians

  • Able to remain calm and even-tempered in stressful situations

  • Comprehensive knowledge of technical designs, engineering drawings, and schematics

  • Comprehensive knowledge with Safety Systems and PST (Partial Stroke Test)

  • Comprehensive knowledge of main valve competitors (Fisher, MN, Metso, Samson, CCI). Electric actuation competitors is also helpful (Rotork, Auma, EIM, Coester, etc.)

  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with FLS main digital positioner competitors (Fisher, Masoneilan, Metso, Samson, Siemens, ABB, Foxboro) .

  • Comprehensive knowledge with Flowserve Advanced Products, computers and electronics. (Star Pac, Master Station, ect.)

Excellent writing and documentation skills regarding engineering reports and other documentation.
