Role Summary
The Validation and Test Manager is responsible for leading the validation and testing for the Positioner and Switches product family for new product development, sustaining engineering and L3 field service support. This role ensures that Flowserve’s positioners and switches meet performance, reliability, and compliance standards through rigorous testing and validation protocols. The manager collaborates with new product development, sustaining engineering, services and solutions engineering and quality teams to deliver high-quality products and solutions that meet customer and industry requirements.
This position is also responsible for managing all aspects of laboratory test work, including team management, lab safety, data acquisition, test planning, test operation, tester design and construction, instrumentation and measurement, procurement of test materials, and maintenance of laboratory files and records.
Responsibilities
Testing and Validation:
Management and oversight of end-to-end validation testing program
Develop and Document test plans to evaluate product performance through all phases of design to meet regulatory and customer requirements.
Conduct functional, integration, and system-level testing.
Verify compatibility of products with industrial control system hardware (PLC’s, DCS, IS Barriers).
Test communication protocols (e.g., HART, Modbus, Profibus) used in industrial systems.
Analyze diagnostic data (e.g., HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus) to identify issues such as calibration drift, stick-slip, or air supply problems. Recommend corrective actions to improve performance
Design and document test protocols, including hydrostatic, air pressure, and partial-stroke testing, to meet standards like API 6D and API 598. Ensure tests align with safety and regulatory requirements
Support predictive maintenance strategies by leveraging positioner diagnostics to reduce downtime and enhance system reliability. Recommend upgrades or retrofits to improve valve performance
Provide technical guidance to technicians supporting testing.
Automation and Test Equipment:
Management of automated testing environment
Design and maintain LabVIEW/scripting software programs and associated hardware for repeatable and reliable automated testing on a variety of OTS and custom test equipment.
Work with a variety of test equipment: Logic Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, 4-20mA Loop Calibrators, Digital Multimeters, Environmental chambers.
Documentation and compliance:
Tracking of testing milestones, dependencies, issues, risks and assumptions
Collect and interpret test results using software tools to assess valve health, performance, and compliance.
Prepare detailed reports for engineering teams, customers and regulatory bodies
Maintain test reports, logs, and quality assurance records.
Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO, IEC, ATEX for hazardous environments).
Collaboration:
Establish practices that enable culture of continuous improvement and lean validation processes
Lead testing and validation efforts.
Participation in defect (incident)triage meetings
Work with R&D, manufacturing, and quality teams to improve designs.
Provide feedback on potential improvements in hardware, software and firmware.
Assist in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA) and participate in design reviews.
Confirm test specification and test limits to provide as a deliverable to manufacturing test group.
Analyze test data and provide recommendations for design improvement.
Work with design engineers, automation specialists, and field technicians to integrate digital positioners into control systems.
Provide technical support for on-site testing and commissioning
Requirements
BS or BA degree in related field, Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering.
At least 8 years of experience in lab management and validation & test management within the manufacturing/ electronic environment.
Experience in valve testing, automation or instrumentations, preferably with digital valve positioners.
Proficiency in reliability, electronic testing, test automation, test plan development.
Team building, team management, and leadership skills are a must.
Strong Problem Solving skills.
Knowledge of Safety Integrity levels, Circuit Design, Control Systems, Circuit troubleshooting, LabView.
Excellent verbal and communication skills.
