Role Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing and leading a team of direct labor employees in the manufacture and assembly of products, components

  • Overseeing their department's work and assuring deadlines are met on time.

  • Solving production problems as they arise.

  • Ensuring all company policies and procedures are being followed.

  • Participating in developing new policies and procedures as a process of continuous improvement at the direction of management.

  • Assigning work to meet daily priorities, helping to determine if departmental overtime is needed to meet customer ship dates and provides any other assistance as directed by Plant Manager.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Training and leading employees and Team Leads in safety, quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Assigning work to hourly personnel to meet schedule commitments and cycle time requirements.

  • Prioritizing and managing the workflow within the department to ensure timely and efficient task completion in accordance with the production schedule.

  • Ensuring all quality, regulatory, ISO, Nuclear requirements are met.

  • Assuring that appropriate actions are taken to meet all requirements, including stopping production if appropriate.

  • Reviewing all work within the department to assure accuracy of the work meets standard operating procedures and job expectations.

  • Holding departmental employees accountable for following all OSHA and company policies and regulations. Actively participates in safety improvement activities.

  • Enforcing departmental compliance and enforcement of all company policies and procedures. Ensuring consistent and effective employee relations.

  • Providing technical expertise for problem resolution. Liaisons with appropriate departments such as Quality, Materials, Purchasing, Engineering, Sales Administration, Product Management to determine root cause and corrective actions.

  • Training and development of all departmental personnel. This includes defining the job function requirements, training plans for employees to develop the required skills, and maintaining the department qualification and training skill matrix.

  • Participating in department interviews, performance reviews, and manages time & attendance for area.

  • Leading continuous improvement activities within the departments.

  • Leading the implementation of Lean foundational blocks of Identification of Waste, 6S, Standard Work, and Visual Management.

  • Participating in Kaizen Events and taking on roles of subject matter expert where appropriate.

  • Participating in value stream map creation and goal setting for the department product lines.

  • Heat treatment management (Process Knowledge and Schedule Adherence)

  • Maintaining daily materials logs and review and approval of weld process reports

  • Filler material inventory maintenance and control.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma preferred; (or) must have successfully demonstrated leadership capabilities in a manufacturing environment.

  • 1 to 2 years Vocational - Welding Fabrication or Certificates for Mig and Tig, Stick

  • Effective verbal and written communications. Must also be able to read and comprehend documents written in English

  • Must possess a high level of technical knowledge and experience

  • Must have strong leadership skills

  • Thorough understanding and application of lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Experience production welder within a manufacturing environment

  • Math and blueprint reading skills

  • Good at problem solving

  • Must be familiar with, set up, and be able to operate hand and power tools

  • Minimum of 5 years’ work-related experience as a professional welder in a manufacturing environment.

  • Able to read blueprints and weld symbols to visually inspect completed hardware and assemblies

  • Ability to analyze and evaluate drawings, and specifications.

  • Able to read & understand work orders, safety rules, & various manuals.

  • Able to operate various material handling equipment, to include but not limited to, overhead cranes, forklifts, and pallet jacks.

  • Must be able to perform work functions while standing for long periods of time.

  • Must be able to lift, push, pry, and drag heavy materials up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to reach, grasp, bend, stoop, crawl under or climb over to weld product.

Preferred Experience / Skills:

  • Team leadership and management experience desired
