Role Summary:

The Director of Tax Planning is a senior member of the tax team, reporting directly to the VP of Tax. Responsibilities include developing and managing corporate restructuring projects, involvement in global M&A transactions, management of global transfer pricing policies, and interpretation of tax legislation as it applies to Flowserve

Responsibilities & Requirements: Although not all inclusive, representative responsibilities and characteristics of the position are listed below:

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, motivate and manage a team of 5-6 experienced managers and/or directors

  • Stay up to date on US and international tax legislation to ensure Flowserve remains compliant while maximizing its global tax position

  • Management of complex corporate restructuring plans, which includes clear and consistent communication with cross-functional departments

  • Maintain relationships with external advisors with an emphasis on project management coordination

  • Extremely organized and able to manage multiple projects at once

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and remain flexible in a fast-paced environment

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to clearly present complex issues to executives and others with little or no tax experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with CPA or Masters of Tax preferred

  • 15+ years international and federal tax experience in Big 4 or comparable tax experience in a large multinational corporation.

  • Understanding of international aspects of U.S. taxation including knowledge and experience in global tax structuring and strategies, ASC 740 implications and related research

  • Executive presence and business acumen

  • Strong project management skills with ability to communicate cross-functionally and with multiple levels of management

  • Functions independently - independent decision maker, resourceful and detail-oriented

  • Strong Excel skills as well as proficiency with Word and PowerPoint

  • Ability to apply and adapt gained experiences/knowledge to new situations.

  • Strong oral, written, interpersonal, technical communication and presentation skills

Preferred Experience / Skills:

  • Experience with Sharepoint, SAP BPC, and SAP ERP a plus
