Role Summary:

The Principal Manufacturing Engineer, primarily focused on Machining Applications, is pivotal to Flowserve’s strategic development of a Lean, world class machining capability. Driving strategic technology and applications strategy, the incumbent will play a key role in creating and executing efficient and effective asset utilization, 6 Sigma Quality levels, facility flow in manufacturing facilities that encode world class safety, ergonomics, and optimized automation capability. A hands-on knowledge of and deep technical expertise with machining operations and maintenance strategy, tooling specification and development, ferrous/nonferrous material characteristics, CNC programming optimization, Lean/6 Sigma problem solving techniques and applied Lean principles is essential. While the role will be tied to our headquarters in Texas, we are open to remote candidates that are located in or a near large metropolitan area.

Responsibilities & Requirements:

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses improvement opportunities, develops and delivers optimum manufacturing methods and capability to the product portfolio

  • Develops green and brown field manufacturing systems designs, and product transition planning

  • Leads the execution of product transfers in and out of facilities, including in/outsourcing activities

  • Acts as voice of the enterprise and Manufacturing Engineering during daily accountability meetings

  • Coordinate machining applications projects with Platform Leadership, Quality, Supply Chain, HSE, and Engineering

  • Drives best practices in manufacturing within global standards

  • Develops manufacturing technology roadmap and prioritizes new technology investment across all Platforms

  • Develops manufacturing maturity model and guides sites through the implementation process

  • Acts as a manufacturing subject matter expert in support of Design to Value and Design for Manufacturability on projects related to cost optimization, process improvement, and new product development

  • Aligns manufacturing technology strategies with all operational functions

  • Facilitates and drives in the selection of machinery and methods per global standards

  • Supports product development activities regarding new product and machining process

  • Leads Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) projects in machining disciplines

  • Establishes safety training needs for department

Requirements

  • Bachelors engineering degree, preferably in Industrial or Manufacturing engineering

  • 10+ years relevant experience within a manufacturing environment, including hands-on experience of machining operations, automation systems maintenance, and tooling applications

  • Demonstrated ability to develop or improve shop floor control, work measurement, and quality measurement processes and systems

  • Experience in developing Lean factory workflows and layouts

  • Experience with Multi-machinery manufacturing methods and materials technology

  • Understanding of Machine/Process Capability as well as the application of Statistical process control

  • Advanced skills in project management tools, methods, and applications

  • Certified in Lean and 6 Sigma proficiency to black belt level (or equivalent)

  • Understanding of CAPEX investment processes

  • Coordinating/leveraging effectively remote CNC programming support as well as on site

  • Proven track record of process and program transformation

  • Prior experience in best practices to ensure skill acquisition/development and knowledge retention

  • Ability to travel up to 50%

Preferred Experience / Skills:

  • Deep subject matter expertise and Operational Machining experience

  • Passion for Lean continuous improvement and driving sustainable change

  • Continuous product and process development capability, along with tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Esprit

  • Strategic thinker and an organized, agile implementer

  • Strong executive presence and effective verbal and written communication skills, including presentations

  • Basic financial acumen and product cost knowledge

  • Multi-machinery, automation, and tooling management manufacturing methods

  • Fluency in other languages a plus
