Role Summary:

The ComOps Applications Engineer is responsible for supporting a wide variety of customer quotation requests across Flowserve's portfolio of pumps from FPD (mainly IPO platform). This role is involved with all customer facing activities related to the order acquisition process including proposal development, specification and scope review, pricing analysis, and coordination with multiple internal and external stakeholders. It also includes accountability for a clean order hand-off to operations. This position typically reports to a ComOps Manager or Supervisor. The Applications Engineer is also expected to be capable of making technical decisions as appropriate in coordination with Engineering resources.

Responsibilities & Requirements:

You will be involved in the following tasks:

  • Proactively cultivate and maintain a high level of communication with Sales, Operations, and other functional stakeholders in order to provide a high quality of customer service. Responsibility to proactively communicate proposal details and gain alignment from applicable sales engineers and plant managers in order to ensure full transparency and accuracy for ultimate request fulfilment.

  • Timely preparation of high quality and complex proposals within limitations dictated by the customer or manager using designated workload management tools and processes, while analysing productivity.

  • Demonstrate a firm and instructional understanding of pump/seal applications and types, a clear understanding of pump affinity laws and how these relate to pumps, seals and systems.

  • Excellent organizational skills and project management mindset.

  • Manage and monitor the proposal throughout the entire bid cycle including updating and maintaining designated quote management system, while analysing performance to maximize hit-rate and responsiveness.

  • Lead all coordination efforts on applicable quotes while ensuring close collaboration and communication throughout the bid cycle. Participate in strategy discussions with sales and other stakeholders.

  • Coordinate with operations, supply chain, and other functions to ensure that proper pricing is provided to customers, while maximizing profitability.

  • Minimize business risks by identifying areas commercial concern and mitigate accordingly.

  • Ensure clean order hand-offs occur on successful proposals, and minimize errors which could deteriorate margins.

You are the ideal colleague if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) preferably in mechanical engineering, 5+ years relevant industry experience or demonstrated capability preferred.

  • Strong technical and commercial acumen, with cross-functional experience a plus.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Excellent organizational skills and project management mindset.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and process oriented mindset with experienced mechanical aptitude.

  • Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of pump applications and types, a clear understanding of pump affinity laws and how these relate to pumps, seals and systems.

  • Continuous improvement mindset and high degree of comfort with quoting tools and related technologies.

  • Negotiation skills.

  • Understand financial principals and return on investment

  • Fluently in English. Other language skills appreciated.

  • Some limited travel may be required.
