Role Summary:

The role will be a member of Flowserve’s Asia Pacific Tax team reporting to Tax Director, Asia Pacific based in Singapore and closely work with India Finance Director and site controllers. Working closely alongside Tax colleagues in and outside the Asia Pacific, the role will be responsible for managing the tax matters across all of Flowserve’s business activities in India and contributing knowledge to global/regional tax projects. Whilst this role will not include direct management of various tax filing requirements, the successful candidate will be required to review reporting and risk control procedures, partnering closely with other stakeholders (e.g. Finance and Controllership colleagues) to make desirable enhancements.

Responsibilities & Requirements: Candidate profile

The successful candidate should have at least 10 years of relevant India tax (covering direct tax, indirect tax and transfer pricing) experience gained ideally from public accounting practice and/or in-house tax positions. An understanding of US tax principles and US GAAP will be advantageous. The successful candidate should possess a strategic mindset, display strong leadership, have excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively in a matrix environment, be innovative and be able to demonstrate a proven track record of working with India tax issues.

Primary role responsibilities

  • Providing tax advisory support and direction to various FLOWSERVE colleagues on general tax matters in India. Interfacing with FLOWSERVE Tax colleagues in and outside the Asia Pacific region on global/regional initiatives and dealing with any India tax issues arising;

  • Identifying risks and opportunities, as well as planning, designing and managing tax projects to contribute to the management of FLOWSERVE’s effective tax rate and tax compliance requirements. This could include working with relevant business functions across India to ensure supportable tax positions for business transactions, reviewing permanent establishment exposures, withholding tax consequences, managing the India GST implementation, etc.;

  • Providing analyses and recommendations of tax positions, and effectively engaging with key stakeholders (in and outside the FLOWSERVE Tax team) to ensure communication and understanding of such matters. This includes supporting (where applicable), from a tax perspective, FLOWSERVE’s M&A activities, restructuring initiatives, treasury funding issues, dividend flows, equity investment/capitalization issues, establishment of new business entities, etc.;

  • Managing tax audits and dispute resolution initiatives in conjunction with Finance and Controllership. This includes managing any commitments required under any Advanced Pricing Agreements signed with the India tax authorities.

  • Supporting the quarterly and year-end group tax reporting processes for the India FLOWSERVE entities. Review and contribute to the determination of provisioning of open tax issues based on submissions made by the Controllership;

  • Reviewing the tax returns and tax summary memorandums of the India FLOWSERVE entities produced by outsourced service providers in order to support the Controllership in determining appropriate tax filing positions, as well as to identify tax risks and opportunities;

  • Effectively managing the use and performance of external tax advisors so as to ensure appropriate external tax advisor fee spend;

  • Supporting/coordinating Corporate and Asia Pacific tax teams in global/regional projects

  • Providing appropriate levels of tax training to FLOWSERVE colleagues, when required.
